We host yoga classes seven days a week from our unique studio in the heart of Sheffield’s urban village, Kelham Island. We offer a wide range of classes and many different styles of yoga because we believe that for a healthy and balanced life, your yoga practice should change to match your physical health, energy levels and mood. For Beginners and refreshers. If you want to try out yoga or know you should try yoga, this is the class for you. If you need to re-find your yoga feet after a long break or need reminding of the foundations that support even the most advanced of practices; then again, this is the class for you!
Without judgement or criticism, but full of love and attention, you will be lead through the very basics of yoga, from why we say ‘Om’, to finding your feet or your seat, in both standing and floor based poses. It won’t be long before you’re flying through a confident sun salutation.
Don’t worry if you don’t have the right attire, feel nervous or self-conscious, this class is made for those who aren’t flexible or those of you that think you don’t have ‘the yoga body.’ This class will provide a safe and fun environment to learn, laugh and love yoga.
Suitable for beginner and beyond and a perfect class to follow on from our beginners course. Simply yoga is a slower practice that emphasises a balanced combination of sustained poses with attention to postural alignment and breathing techniques to both stretch and strengthen your body, helping you find connection between mind body and breath. Expect yourself to gain confidence in your yoga practice to help you feel more ready to take on stronger and faster classes.
HIIY - High intensity interval yoga
High intensity Interval Yoga, a side step from a traditional yoga practice, this class will give you a chance to challenge your strength and endurance both physically and mentally. Working with both the fast twitch and stabilising muscle fibres, means you will get bursts of power and strength as well as creating space and flexibility, whilst using breath to connect it all together. There will be a balance of fast repetitions of stronger poses or body weight movements, accompanied with slower paced flows to let it all release. Expect to leave feeling invigorated, strong and confident, but somehow still relaxed and blissed out!
Suitable for complete beginner up to advanced. In our restorative class, you will rest, fully supported on our comfy bolsters, yoga bricks, pillows and blankets, whilst breathing deeply and listening to relaxing music. This style of yoga is very gentle but provides a deep physical and emotional release from stress and tension. Some people say, they feel as if they’ve had a full body massage after this class. Bliss! It is also suitable for people suffering from or recovering from many types of illnesses. Please contact us if you need further information.
A class designed to help you shake off the day and iron out those kinks, uncurl the spine and lengthen the hamstrings. This class is perfect for those sat at desks all day, or spend hours driving and particularly for the sporty looking to add a good stretch to their routine. Suitable for beginners and experienced yogis.
A class suitable for beginner and up. This style of yoga involves holding seated poses for 3 – 5 minutes allowing a deeper physical release in the body. With it’s roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yin yoga clears energy pathways or meridians throughout the body. It also cultivates an awareness of inner silence and the challenges that come along with that. You will find that this class completely supports you through the challenges of yin yoga providing you with different techniques to help keep your mind calm, settled and relaxed.
Fast Flowing Vinyasa
In this style of yoga you will learn to transition from one yoga pose, (asana) to the next in a seamless and flowing way. The direct translation of Vinyasa is to carefully place and you will learn to do that with your body, not only in static positions but as you move through creative sequences.
This is a fast paced yoga class that builds strength, stamina and flexibility, you don’t necessarily need to have previous experience of yoga but you do need a reasonable level of physical fitness and mobility.
Expect to feel sweaty, this is a progressive style of yoga meaning you’ll be encouraged to work towards deeper and stronger poses and transitions over time. It’s a workout, you’ll have had a deep stretch and twisted yourself into a shape like a pretzel. Your Savasana (relaxation) at the end will feel soooo good!
Glow Flow Vinyasa
Everything you love from a Fast Flowing Vinyasa class with the added bonus of learning to fly and transition through arm balances, headstands and handstands.
It’s core strong with the aim of helping you to build an even greater degree of strength and stamina in both body and mind, for the poses and transitions that require a deeper level of flexibility and a little more dedication.
This class will encourage you to believe beyond your current level of ability. It’s oh so sweaty and oh so much fun! Previous yoga experience is needed, along with a good level of fitness, an open mind, a sense of enthusiasm and a desire to try things that you haven’t yet learnt how to do.
Leave your worries at the door on your way in, this class will make you feel like you don’t have a care in the world as you collapse into a blissful Savasana (relaxation) at the end.
Rhythm and Bhavana
Suitable for all levels. Bhavana means ‘cultivating’ or ‘mood’. Each week, this class will be inspired by music from a specific artist or genre, put together uniquely for each class. The energy of sound will be the fuel for movement to get us in the mood for Friday night, expect a light hearted, fun class with pose options for all levels. You will leave this class with a big smile, feeling ready for the weekend! If you were a fan of our Yoga for Tramlines events you’re going to love this class.
Salute the Sun
Learn how to tap into your inner stillness and transcend the mind bullsh*t.
As normal Steve Anwar will help us to tap into stillness silence using a variety of techniques inc. Mantra’s, Mindfulness, Breath & Body Awareness… with a new aspect or theme to contemplate on during the sessions. We will plant seeds of intention at the beginning and end with a meta moment to flow through the rest of the day or week. The classes are very practically minded and are geared towards helping people switch off or unplug from their hectic routine. There will always be a firm focus on the right approach to achieve the best results so there will be plenty of practical advise and tips.
Time to ease your way back into your pre-pregnancy body! Learn effective poses to help you work into back, shoulder neck and hip tension, that builds up from hours of cuddling and feeding your little one.
Learn how to find your pre-pregnancy core strength and build on it, making you one strong mama.
Meet other mum’s and relax in a friendly, welcoming and supportive class. Babies are very welcome and we will show you how to include them in your yoga practice! Complete beginners to yoga are welcome.
Body release is a class designed to work into those tight spots, free up muscular tension, promote healing & help the body stay injury free. Using a combination of body ball rolling, trigger point and fascia release, coupled with yoga poses; this unique class is the closest thing to manual therapy or massage that we can perform on ourselves. Perfect for sports people to tune their body & perform at their best or people who are desk bound needing to release muscular tension. Working with balls allows students to work at a level that feels appropriate and comfortable for their body tissue. After the class you may come away with similar feelings to that of a massage or physical therapy. Drink plenty of water and rest the body as required. All props are provided.
Natural Movement Class
Do you move? Really – do you move in the way our bodies were designed to? Do you jump, climb, crawl, balance?
This class is designed to reconnect with the bodies natural movement and wake up muscles we forgot we had!
A challenging class, using a mixture of equipment – think adult playground. This class will help improve strength, coordination and functional movement, great for the sporty & yogis alike. Come play and reignite the pure joy of movement.
A set sequence of movements (asana) combined with the breath, developed by K Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India. This led class is suitable for beginners to intermediates. Full guidance on sequencing is given along with physical adjustments. The aim of physical adjustments is to correct your alignment and help you to find a deeper expression of each pose.
Total Body Yoga
This class takes inspiration from the Ballet Barre class phenomenon that is taking over the world! We have brought to you some of the elements of classic barre fitness which focuses strongly on postural strength, alignment, muscle action and breath. This is a total body conditioning but expect a stronger focus on glutes, core, and arms, which will be married with the always enjoyable gentle movements of a yoga class to help release your body into a yoga euphoria.
Expect to leave feeling stronger, longer, leaner, yet supple and chilled.
Coming to class
- Wear comfy clothes that are easy to move in. Leggings, fitted shorts, jogging pants, T.shirts and vest tops are great.
- You are welcome to bring your own yoga mat to class, but we also have mats at the studio that you are welcome to use.
- If you have a recent injury or are worried about specific aches and pains please inform your teacher before the class starts.
- Your teacher will explain everything you need to know during each class so just listen and follow along, if you have any questions then please do ask.
- Please do feel completely comfortable taking a break at any time, either stand, sit or lay down until you feel ready to continue.
- We do not have our own changing room or shower facilities but there are toilets on site that you may use to get changed in
